WELCOME parents and students! I am very excited to begin the 2017-2018 school year.  This is my 12th year at Dr. Hornedo Middle School and would like to introduce myself as your new 7th grade General Math and Connected Language Math teacher.  I am also the 8th grade girls volleyball coach.  Keeping busy is my way of life :)

I was born and raised here in El Paso.  I am a product of EPISD and UTEP where I earned a degree in Education Math and Science 4th - 8th.  I have returned to my alma mater, UTEP, to pursue a Masters Degree.  I am very excited to continue my education.  Aside from attending school I still like to play volleyball, read and knit.

My Teaching Philosophy:

As your child's teacher, I hope to spark interest in the area of mathematics, encourage students to take ownership of their education and of course, be successful.  I hope to foster critical thinking, facilitate the acquisition of life-long learning skills.  I hope to prepare students to function effectively in an information society by developing problem-solving strategies that will some day help them become better citizens.  I'm here to help students and I am open to any helpful suggestions.

I believe the key word to teaching is flexibility.  A classroom should be a place where students have a voice.  By creating a comfortable learning environment where discipline is not an issue, students will be able to take ownership of themselves and take pride in their work.  Learning should not be a chore but an enticing morsel that will make the student want to bite into it like it was the best thing they ever tasted.

Parents I would really appreciate if you take a few minutes to read over the parent letter that is linked to the left side of this page. Please make sure you select the appropriate one, 7th grade math or 7th Grade Connected Language and take Parent/Student survey.

You will find my email address at the top of the page.  This is one of the best ways to reach me because I check my email several times throughout the day and evening.

If you would like to contact me, you may call the school at 915-236-3300 or email me. Please allow at least 24-hour notice for a conference. My conference period is 12:46 to 1:47 PM mail is quick way to get a hold me too since I check my email daily.  Sometimes I may not get to it in the evening but I will get back to you the next school day.

Thank you for your support! I look forward to meeting you!
