About Your Teacher
I am very excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my 11th year at Hornedo Middle School. I teach Reading/English and also coach 8th-grade boys basketball. I was born and raised in San Juan, PR but left the island to go to college in the U.S. and graduated from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. Once I graduated, I went into the Army as an officer and spent nine years serving in many different capacities. I had the amazing opportunity of serving my country and traveling all over Europe during my three-year tour in Germany. After that, I decided to embark in a different direction and became a Financial Planner. I did that for 14 years, 12 of those as an Independent Contractor. Now I teach Reading.
I am passionate about reading and intend on transferring that passion to my students. I love it when they leave my class at the end of the year with a new-found love for reading. It is life changing!

Classroom Expectations
The children in my class should treat each other with respect. Expectations are that students will be ready for class every day. We will be having lots of discussions on a myriad of topics and one of my goals is to get the students to develop their own beliefs and opinions and be able to debate/discuss controversial topics while displaying courteous and respectful behavior. I want my students to become critical thinkers. Please expect some questions and discussions from your children, at home. Class participation is a significant part of their weekly grade so, please encourage them to get involved in class discussions. Cell phones are allowed in my classroom, but only when I have given them permission to use them. Students are responsible for safeguarding their phones.
