A BIG welcome from your Principal
You have officially
arrived at Hornedo, a TAKS State
Recognized campus! We are proud of our
continued academic excellence and overall
successes! Welcome Hornedo 8th grade
students and parents! We are looking forward to
working with you and making this year a positive and
successful school year!
Parents, in this
packet, you will find many important pieces of
information and some documents that you will need to
complete and have your child return to his/her
advisory teacher.
To assist your
transition to a new school, please follow
these 10 important
reminders:
-
We share
the building with the Franklin High School 9th
grade. Therefore, we are 2 schools sharing a
building. To contact an Hornedo employee, call
231-2200, or use e-mail communication. All
Hornedo teachers and staff have e-mail addresses
(included on Hornedo webpage and in the Hornedo
Student Handbook). Please give Hornedo
personnel at least 24-hours to return phone
calls. To expedite communication with a
teacher, use the e-mail system, as our teachers
do not have classroom phones.
-
Hornedo faculty
and staff teach students the importance of
displaying good character. Our
faculty and staff expect students to respect
others, as well as to use
appropriate manners/behaviors at all times.
As adults, we will do our best to set an
example and be good role models for our
students.
-
Classroom concerns
should first be directed to the classroom
teacher. Further concerns may be directed to
counselors, assistant principals, and the
Principal.
-
Use the District’s
new Parent Portal site to see your child’s
grades and attendance. Any questions about
grades or attendance should be directed to the
classroom teacher.
-
Encourage your
child to attend daily tutoring. Individual
assistance can be provided. Additionally, your
child can attend the Homework Tutoring Center to
complete unfinished classroom assignments or
homework assignments. Teachers are also
available for assistance in the Homework
Tutoring Center. Tutoring is Monday-Thursday
from 2:50- 4:00 PM. TAKS tutoring will be
required for some students (times & dates will
be announced). Please support our efforts to
help your child succeed in all areas of TAKS.
-
Graduation Plans
will be completed by your child. Please
encourage and assist him/her during this
process. Additionally, college preparation will
be discussed.
-
Please allow 3
school days to process all written transfer
requests/schedule changes. Verbal schedule
change requests will not be processed.
-
To keep our
students safe, please use student drop off areas
only. Teacher/Staff parking lots are not
for student drop off and are very busy in the
morning and after school.
-
Assist your child
in following dress code policies located in this
packet. This will prevent your child from
having office visits for dress code violations.
-
Volunteer and
support your teachers and staff. We are happy
to have you visit our campus and assist us in
making our school successful. Any 8th
grade parent interested in volunteering on our
campus may contact Wanda Melendez (At-Risk
Coordinator and VIP Coordinator at 231-2200).
Thank you for working
with us to help Hornedo continue its academic and
extracurricular excellence! We look forward to a
productive and successful year!
Sincerely
Angela Henderson
