About Us

Located in El Paso, Texas, the El Paso Independent School District is the largest district in the Texas Education Agency's Region 19.  With more than 62,000 students in 88 campuses, EPISD also is the seventh largest district in Texas and the 57th largest district in the United States.  It also is El Paso's largest employer with more than 8,000 employees.

Dr. Hornedo taught at the El Paso Technical Institute for two years and initiated radio instruction for the El Paso Public Schools in 1929 by giving a 36 lesson course over Station KTSM in beginner’s Spanish.

After receiving his M.D. degree, he joined the United States Public Health Reserve and started to work for the El Paso City-County Health Unit in 1933.   In 1952, Dr. Hornedo was appointed Health Officer for the City and County of El Paso and Director of the El Paso City-County Health Unit.

Dr. Hornedo was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Administration of Public Health in 1971.  He did research on the human thymus gland for over 40 years in the determination of the etiology and treatment of AIDS and other diseases of the immune system.  Read his complete biography.

  • Increase TAKS scores and narrow the gaps

  • Maintain an attendance rate of 98%

  • Develop a plan which focuses on At-Risk students

  • Develop a plan which focuses on Bilingual Education/ESL students

  • Develop a plan which focuses on Gifted and Talented students

  • Develop a plan which focuses on Special Education students

  1. Hornedo Middle School will promote the professional growth of its staff and faculty.  We will:

  • Offer teachers a minimum of four professional growth activities

  • Offer support staff a minimum of three professional growth activities

  1. Hornedo Middle School will provide a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning.  We will:

  • Review and refine the crisis management plan

  • Develop a student campus-wide discipline plan

  • Develop a safety management plan

  • Develop a positive school climate plan


Parent-Teacher Association
